iX Technology Platform Q&A
What is the iX Technology Platform?
The iX Technology Platform is the most advanced set of dispenser electronics ever released by Dresser Wayne, powering three innovative features — iX Media, iSense and iDPOS — designed to increase revenue and lower costs for Dresser Wayne’s customers. The iX Technology Platform’s open architecture and forward-looking design give it unprecedented stability, security and flexibility.

Do the different iX Technology Platform features have to be purchased as a single package?
No. The iX Technology Platform features are completely modular and can be purchased individually at any time after the initial dispenser purchase. No new boards or electronics are required to add additional iX Technology Platform features to your existing Ovation dispensers.

Are the iX Technology Platform features available in dispenser models other than Ovation?
At the moment, iX Media, iSense, and iDPOS are only available for Dresser Wayne's Ovation dispensers. Due to it’s forward-thinking design and compatibility, integration of the iX Technology Platform into future Dresser Wayne product introductions is planned.

What else is required to install and use the iX Technology Platform?
In addition to your legacy wiring, Cat 5 cabling will need to be installed in your forecourt.

iX Media Q&A
What is iX Media?

iX Media is a powerful tool for helping boost retail sales by driving customers back into the store. Retailers can use iX Media to customize site-specific full-motion video promotions or other customer-oriented media messages that can be broadcast to pump customers via a dispenser-integrated 10.4” color display and speaker.

What will iX Media allow me to do?
Besides allowing you to create “mini-commercials” to advertise in-store specials, promote specific products and build brand awareness, iX Media also lets you create and print coupons, drive proprietary card use, promote premium fuel sales, track customer use and behavior — even potentially sell in-store products and lottery tickets right at the pump.

Does iX Media support audio?
Yes, iX Media provides full multimedia capabilities: video, audio and still imagery.

How do I create the ads?
iX Media provides you with an easy-to-use web-based tool that walks you through the process step-by-step, from choosing images (brand-specific, generic or ones you’ve uploaded) to writing promotional text to entering prices to adding predefined animation effects. Dresser Wayne’s partner, EK3 Technologies, can even provide more advanced content creation including customized graphics, photography, and even full-motion video production. Please contact your regional sales manager for more information.

Where is my media content stored?
Media is either stored on a specially-configured USB memory stick device or on the iX Media host. A backup copy of all content is maintained on the iX Gateway.

How do I load my media onto the dispensers?
Once media has been created and previewed on the web interface, it can be published either directly to an iX Gateway via the network or to a specially-configured USB memory stick device for later transfer to the iX Gateway.

iSense Q&A
What is iSense?
iSense is Dresser Wayne’s equipment diagnostics tool. It remotely diagnoses and troubleshoots potential site equipment problems — reducing unexpected downtime, lowering maintenance costs, protecting your long-term investment and improving overall site profitability.

How does iSense compare to competitors’ systems?
Unlike other remote diagnostic systems, iSense is built on Dresser Wayne’s state-of-the-art, open-ended iX Technology Platform. The forward-thinking iX design not only limits the risk of obsolescence, it also works with your existing infrastructure, integrating seamlessly via XML or TCP/IP with your current third-party site monitoring devices, management systems and corporate reporting structures. Competitors’ systems, in contrast, limit your options by requiring you to exclusively use proprietary equipment and service contracts. iSense was specifically designed to offer you more flexible solutions and eliminate high “switching” costs.

Are there any monthly service fees?
No. Unlike the competition, iSense doesn’t require you to pay any monthly service charges. In fact, its advanced self-diagnostic, auto-update and remote reset capabilities will actually save you money by curtailing unnecessary technician site visits.

When can I buy iSense?
iSense has undergone extensive field testing and will be launched at the NACS SHOW 2005 in Las Vegas on November 16-18, 2005. Production release is scheduled for January 2006.

iDPOS Q&A

What is iDPOS?
Part of the iX Technology Platform, iDPOS puts POS functionality inside your dispensers — allowing them to independently manage, process and store transactions even when the in-store system is unavailable.

Do I have to change my POS in order to support iDPOS?
Yes. However, protocol documentation is available for all 3rd party POS providers partnered with Dresser Wayne.

Xflo Meter Q&A
What is the Xflo Meter?
The Xflo Meter is the most accurate and field proven fuel meter on the market. Engineered and built by Dresser Wayne, it is designed to virtually eliminate meter drift and significantly reduce meter-related maintenance costs.

How will the Xflo Meter save me money?
The phenomenally accurate Xflo Meter virtually eliminates meter drift, actually saving you fuel every time a customer fills their tank. Over the course of a year, you’ll save as much as 4,000 gallons* — and  that means significant additional profit. Because the Xflo Meter doesn’t need regular recalibration, you can also say goodbye to costly service charges associated with less accurate meters. Finally, the Xflo Meter maximizes fuel flow rates, helping increase site throughput and allowing you to service more customers.
*(Based on 0.1% accuracy improvement and 5 dispensers per site.)

Does the Xflo really eliminate meter drift?
The Xflo Meter has undergone not only extensive lab testing (subjected to an astonishing 12 million gallons of fuel), but also rigorous field tests, with more than 3,000 meters installed in 600 Tokheim Harmony dispensers in the US and UK since 2001. In both lab and field tests, the Xflo Meters demonstrated no discernible drift — they were still perfectly calibrated!

Why is the Xflo Meter more accurate than other meters?
The Xflo Meter’s phenomenal accuracy is the result of its finely machined, precision ground bearing steel spindles that measure every drop of fuel.  Fewer moving parts and sealing surfaces than traditional meters translate to fewer areas for fuel to slip past the measuring chamber. Finally, the Xflo Meter uses multiple calibration points (not just one) which provide for better accuracy across the entire flow range.

Will the Xflo Meter improve my dispenser’s flow rate?
Yes, dramatically. The Xflo Meter has a lower resistance to fuel flow than any other meter on the market — its capacity is nearly 50% higher than that of the iMeter. The larger filter inlet also results in a better flow rate performance. The Xflo Meter is without question Dresser Wayne’s fastest meter ever.

How is the Xflo Meter constructed?
The Xflo’s efficient hydraulic design features twin screw rotors made of hardened bearing steel housed in compact package. The robust design, capable of handling 80-100 micron particles, is perfect for varied fuel environments. It’s designed to function in all flow conditions, fluid temperatures, densities and viscosities, and to be used with the same fuel types compatible with the iMeter. There are future plans to adapt the Xflo Meter for use with E85 and propane.

Is the Xflo Meter as secure as the iMeter?
The Xflo Meter is even more secure as the iMeter. With its high speed serial communication to the iGEM pump computer and its lack of exposed gear sets, the Xflo Meter is as highly resistant to tampering as the iMeter. And the introduction of unique calibration tables and serial numbers that must be recognized by iGEM add another layer of security to the integrity of the transaction.

When can I get an Xflo Meter? Can the Xflo Meter be retrofitted into my existing dispensers?
The Xflo Meter will be immediately available in Dresser Wayne’s Ovation iX dispensers. Dresser Wayne’s engineers intentionally designed the Xflo Meter module to mount in the same form factor as the existing iMeter module, making it easy to swap out meters in existing dispensers. The Xflo Meter does require a dispenser with iGEM electronics (3/Vista, Ovation, 3/G2200 and Select series). Dispenser models older than 3/Vista or Tokheim cannot be retrofit. Retrofit kits for the Ovation model will likely be available by Spring 2007.
